MNRF investigating after calf moose shot and abandoned

IGNACE, Ont. - The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is asking for the public's help in identifying the person or persons responsible for shooting and abandoning a calf moose north of Ignace. 

Conservation officers were notified on Oct. 17, of a dead calf moose by a member of the public. The moose was found 400 metres south of Silver Dollar on Highway 599, which is approximately 60 kilometres north of Ignace.

Officers determined the animal had been shot and then abandoned.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the MNRF TIPS line at 1-877-847-7667 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or the Ministry’s Ignace office at 807-934-2233.

This is the third abandoned moose to be found in Northwestern Ontario in the past two months. A shot and abandoned black bear was also found in early October.
