The Ministry of the Environment has launched an investigation involving hundreds of bags of crushed rock at the Thunder Bay Boys and Girls Club.

The material has been sitting in the parking lot at the facility for more than a month now. The bags contain crushed rock, which was donated to the Boys and Girls club and was meant to be spread around the parking lot by volunteers.

But the MOE stepped in and stopped the project due to a possible breach of environmental regulations.

Ministry spokesperson Lisa Brygidyr said she cannot comment on what the problem might be with the material, but did say the investigation is ongoing and could result in charges.

Boys and Girls Club executive director Albert Aiello said the situation is frustrating, and he insists there is absolutely no environmental risk with anything in those bags.

Neighbours have been complaining that the bags are an eyesore.

Aiello said he expects the material will be hauled away soon.
