Jason Smallboy of Moose Cree First Nation has been elected Nishnawbe Aski Nation Deputy Grand Chief.
Chiefs and proxies from NAN's 49 communities voted Smallboy into the position in a by-election on Wednesday at the XXXV Keewaywin Conference in Taykwa Tagamou Nation near Cochrane.
He joins Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler, Deputy Grand Chief Derek Fox and Deputy Grand Chief Anna Betty Achneepineskum who were elected in August 2015 to three-year terms.
“I am pleased to have Jason join us on the Executive Council and am confident that our new colleague will hit the ground running to address many of the issues facing our communities," Fiddler said.
"I look forward to working with Jason to build a better future for our people."
