If you're a property owner, you hope your own stuff never ends up at a police auction, but if you're looking to buy then it's a good place to find some great deals.
More than 200 people turned up at Thursday night's auction outside the Thunder Bay Police Station on Balmoral Street to bid on bikes, tools, electronics and other recovered items.
Some of these bicycles sold for $25 or less. Property Clerk Maggie Moffat said it's more about clearing out existing inventory to make room for newly recovered items than it is about making money.
All the money that is raised is turned over to the police board, and is in turn handed to the city.
Moffat encourages everyone to document vital information, such as the make, model and serial number of their property.
That, she says, makes it much more likely that recovered items will be returned to the owner and not sold at auction for pennies on the dollar.
