A morning house fire on the city’s north side may leave a city woman looking for shelter this Christmas.
About 20 firefighters were called to extinguish the fire on Peter Street around 9 a.m.
The fire started in a summer kitchen located in the basement of the home. Upon arrival, firefighters found the lone occupant of the house making her way outside.
She was taken to hospital for treatment of minor smoke inhalation.
Platoon Chief Dave Nelson said it is unfortunate to see something like this so close to the holidays.
Fire damage in the basement was heavy, and smoke damage throughout the house was also thought to be significant.
