A motel fire in Pickle Lake forced tenants to take shelter in a nearby school early this morning.

Just before 3 a.m., a guest staying at the Winston Motel reported that a fire had broken out in the kitchen area.

Upon arrival, OPP officers evacuated the motel and cleared a 500-metre radius for safety due to three large propane tanks attached the building.

The Pickle Lake school was opened to lodge the evacuees while the volunteer fire department took care of the fire.

The cause is un-determined at this time, and the Fire Marshall has been contacted to attend.
