FORT FRANCES, ON – In the morning of January 3, 2017 at 9:50 a.m. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a Motor Vehicle Collision on Highway 11 in La Vallee Township, West of Fort Frances.
The collision involved two tractor trailer units and completely blocked Highway 11. There were no injuries in the collision. Winter weather conditions were a significant contributing factor. Traffic was rerouted through Highway 602 during the road closure. At 4:40 p.m. Highway 11 was re-opened to traffic after being closed for approximately 7 hours.
The OPP is reminding drivers to slow down to adjust to road and weather conditions. It is recommended to increase stopping distances and adjust to slower speeds. The public may telephone 511 or refer to the Ministry of Transportation website for Winter Road Condition Reports for road closures and up-to-date road conditions and not the OPP Communication Center. Check weather and road conditions often and give yourself extra travel time.
