THUNDER BAY -- Motorists may want to avoid Arthur Street over the next couple of days, if possible.

Congestion is expected along the busy roadway as paving work is set to lead to some extended lane closures.

City officials say the work will result in the closure of the eastbound lanes between Edward and Ford Streets Friday and Saturday.  Also, the intersection at Arthur and Edward Streets will be closed for part of Friday.

One westbound lane on Arthur will remain open both days to allow access to homes and businesses.  The roadway will be reopened to traffic at the end of each workday.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area if possible.  And if you do have to use Arthur Street, you're asked to exercise caution.
