THUNDER BAY – With the installation of what the crew called “the hell tower,”. All nine of the towers for the chairlift at Mount Baldy have been installed up the main run.
Mount Baldy Ski Resort Co-Owner Daniel Kardas had to stand atop the newly placed tower to install the just as heavy sheave wheels being guided into place by the helicopter, Kardas says it's an experience he and his crew will never forget.
"I'm just like holy crap I'm sitting at the top of a tower waiting for a helicopter to drop 3,500 hundred pounds of sheave wheels on my head, it was definitely insane it was quite the experience. I got lots of video and I’ll never forget the experience and same with my brother and the crew that was with me," said Kardas.
Kardas says what's next in the early new year is to install the communication lines, cables, and the chairs themselves, as the hard work has already been done.
"The hard work was the drilling of the rock and the foundation and all that fun stuff all summer long, but the towers, the lift line looks amazing, people are pumped to see them up and were pumped to get it rolling sooner than later," said Kardas.
