IGNACE, Ont. -- It’s been almost two weeks since a protest against the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation's assessments of residences on Walkers Lake, temporarily shut down Highway 17 in Schreiber.

High ranking officials from MPAC met with residents of the area Thursday to discuss the process of how their property assessments ended up the way they did.

Highway protest organizer Keith Scott said the word of their protest has spread beyond the Schreiber area.

Scott added that with all the support they have received, the problem with assessments is more widespread than MPAC is letting on.

Schreiber Mayor Mark Figliomeni has requested MPAC to come to the community for some time now, and is happy that they have fulfilled that request.

MPAC’s vice president Carla Nell said MPAC is aware of the concerns of property owners and wants to speak to those concerns, which is why they come to the region.
