THUNDER BAY — Police made numerous impaired arrests over the second-holiday long weekend.
While conducting their Festive RIDE program over the New Year's weekend, Thunder Bay Police laid seven impaired charges; six of them were as a result of the individuals having a blood alcohol concentration over 80mgs, while the seventh was a failure to comply.
In one notable instance, police attended a collision on New Year's Eve along Memorial Ave that involved two vehicles. Shortly before 4:30 pm near Memorial and Central Avenues, officers attended the scene and noted that one of the drivers was exhibiting signs of intoxication.
The 77-year-old man was arrested and determined to have approximately two and a half times the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
Another incident had police witness a red light violation at the intersection of Cumberland St. S and Pearl St just before midnight on Sunday.
The attending officer noted the driver was showing signs of alcohol impairment.
After being arrested and transported to the police headquarters, the driver refused to provide a breath sample for police.
A 32-year-old man was charged with impaired operation, prohibited operation of a vehicle, and failure to comply with a demand.
He had been under a driving prohibition for a previous impaired conviction and was also a suspended driver.
