Murder charge laid after assault victim dies

A man injured in an incident in the Van Norman St/Jean St area this month passed away in hospital

THUNDER BAY — A man who was already charged with aggravated assault in connection with an altercation earlier this month now faces a charge of second-degree murder.

Thunder Bay Police announced Tuesday they have re-arrested 34-year-old Billy Moskotaywenene on the homicide charge because the victim of a July 3rd assault has succumbed to his injuries.

The incident occurred in the area of Jean Street and Van Norman Street, where responding officers found a man with life-threatening injuries.

On July 16, the 27-year-old Thunder Bay resident passed away in hospital.

The victim's name has not been released yet.

Moskotaywenene has been remanded into custody on the new charge pending a future appearance in court.
