ONIGAMING FIRST NATION – A 28-year-old man is behind bars facing a murder charge in conjunction with the death of a 42-year-old Big Island First Nation man.

Larry (JR) Melvin Duck was first arrested on May 18, 2019 after police were called 11 days earlier to investigate a sudden death, a body found near Siibinsing Road in Onigaming First Nation.

Duck was initially charged with aggravated assault, and released, but failed to comply with the conditions of his release on Oct. 18, 2019 and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

A post-mortem examination showed additional evidence in the death of victim, Clayton Bob.

The suspect, who remained at large for months, was re-arrested on Sunday and has been charged with murder.

Duck remains jailed pending a bail hearing.

He was expected to attend court on Monday.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
