A post mortem has concluded that the victim of the city’s first murder investigation of this year died as a result of multiple stab wounds.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers revealed last week that they were working on their first homicide investigation of 2010. Police officers say they found the body of 39-year-old Randy Lawrence Cromarty at 8:30 a.m. at the Inntowner Motor Hotel on Brodie Street Wednesday, May 26.
The following day police charged Thea Debra Gliddy, 28, with second-degree murder
Last week, Thunder Bay Police Service Det. Sgt. Don Lewis, of the force’s Criminal Investigative Branch, said Cromarty appeared to have succumbed to his injuries following what looked to have been a severe beating.
"It was a beating to an extent that we believe it caused Mr. Cromarty’s death however the post mortem, which will be conducted tomorrow morning, will determine the cause of his death hopefully," Lewis said. "I am able to say that the injuries he does have don’t relate to a firearm in any way."
The post mortem confirmed Monday that the victim died as a result of multiple stab wounds.
Gliddy, who was acquainted with Cromarty, was arrested at the hotel Wednesday for intoxication after the body had been discovered.
She first appeared in court Thursday morning. Gliddy will remain in custody with her next court appearance scheduled for June 23.
