THUNDER BAY - A new interactive display in the Thunder Bay Museum brings the minds and motives of extreme athletes to visitors.
Thanks to the work of the team at Science North, locals and tourists will get a taste of the life of an extreme sport athlete at the Beyond Human Limits display from June 28 to July 20.
“It’s all about the psychology behind extreme sports, the physiology… pretty much everything you need to know about how extreme athletes compete,” said Daniela LeVert, a science communicator with Science North.
LeVert said there’s a lot of opportunity to do extreme sports in Northern Ontario, from rock climbing to snowmobiling.
“It was an exhibit that really matched the tour,” LeVert said.
The exhibit at Science North will tour in Kenora, North Bay, Timmins, and Sault Ste.Marie this summer, expecting to host more than 25,000 visitors.
On Friday, students from Claude E. Garton Public School took a field trip to the museum on the last day of classes and got to check out the exhibit.
Grace Byton hung from a yellow bar for 34 seconds to simulate mountain climbing.
“We learned about how to hold on, it was really awesome,” said the Grade 4 student.
Admission to see the exhibit is $3 for adults, $1.50 for children aged six to 17, and children under six are free.
