The son of Nishnawbe Aski Nation Grand Chief Harvey Yesno has been confirmed to be the suspect in a disturbing and fatal hit-and-run earlier this week.
Thirty-two-year-old Sheldon Yesno was charged with second-degree murder after cyclist Richard Vrastak, 38, died from injuries he suffered when struck by a minivan. At the time police said they believed he had been intentionally targeted in what police termed an intentional attack.
NAN officials confirmed the relationship between the suspect and the grand chief on Friday.
In a release, NAN expressed condolences to the victim's family and offered its continued support for Grand Chief Yesno and his family.
It also says because of the personal nature of the incident, NAN officials will be making no further comment on the case.
