NAPS lay trafficking charges

Two individuals are facing drug-related charges following an investigation.

MARTEN FALLS FIRST NATION – Two individuals have been charged with trafficking cocaine, buprenorphine and oxycodone after police executed a search warrant in Marten Falls First Nation earlier this week.

Nishnawbe Aski Police Intelligence Unit, NAPS Drug Enforcement Unit, NAPS Emergency Response Team and Marten Falls Uniform Detachment Members executed a search warrant on July 26.

During the search, officers seized a large quantity of suspected crack cocaine and suboxone.

As a result of the investigation, Jennifer Baxter, 47, and Jack Penagin, 42, from Marten Falls First Nation were arrested and charged with possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking – buprenorphine and possession of a schedule 1 substance – oxycodone.

Both were released on conditions and are scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 15 in Marten Falls.

Marten Falls First Nation is located approximately 432 kilometres north of Thunder Bay.
