BARCELONA – A Nishnawbe Aski Police Service employee has been given the Civilian Achievement Awards at the 2016 International Association of Women Police gathering.

Jennifer Duncan, a 25-year policing veteran, is a criminal analyst whose work includes Project Firefly, an arson-prevention program for children between seven and 12 that resulted in an 18 per cent reduction in arson cases in NAPS communities.

Other work cited included Project Northstar, created to educate, mentor and protect the youth of Nishnawbe Aski Nation youth on the realties of gang life, and the introduction of a community mobilization youth officer which addressed at-risk youth. She was also involved in Project Nexus that addressed alcohol and drug abuse through operational and educational means.

Duncan in May won the Ontario Women in Law Enforcement Civilian Award of Achievement, which led to the IAWP nomination.
