THUNDER BAY—An officer with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) has received an award from the Ontario Women in Law Enforcement.

Detective Alana Morrison was nominated by NAPS for the Law Enforcement Professional of the Year Award for her work in pioneering the Survivor Assistance Support Program, a newly-established victim services unit.

In addition to that leadership role, Detective Morrison continues her position in the NAPS North West and Central Region Crime Units.

She received the award at a ceremony Friday in Toronto.

Morrison has been a police officer for 16 years.

The Ontario Women in Law Enforcement annual awards recognize outstanding achievements in a variety of categories.
