QUEEN’S PARK, Ont. -- Ontario's NDP Leader was demanding answers from the Wynne government Wednesday regarding whether more mercury is seeping into the Wabigoon River near the Grassy Narrows First Nation.

A team of scientists released a report last week concluding that mercury may still be contaminating the river.

Premier Kathleen Wynne responded to Andrea Horwath's questions, saying when she visited Grassy Narrows and spoke with scientists examining the river, there was no knowledge of ongoing mercury poisoning.

The mercury was dumped by a Dryden based paper company some 50 years ago.

It could cost tens of millions of dollars to clean-up.

Horwath says the Liberals aren't testing the water and are stalling on the clean-up.

Murray says this 12-month plan is in addition to the ongoing monitoring that scientists and the Ministry of Environment have been doing on both the fish and the water of the Wabigoon River.
