A public forum held Wednesday evening aimed to help area residents better manage their credit cards and consumer debt loads.

MP John Rafferty (NDP, Thunder Bay – Rainy River) welcomed the New Democrat's critic for consumer protection, Glenn Thibeault to Thunder Bay to speak with area residents about credit cards and what the NDP calls unfair fees that Canadians are paying.

Rafferty says that rising consumer debt levels pose a serious threat to families, and that some need help to deal with it more effectively.

Rafferty hopes these seminars will push Canadians to get the issue out in the open and will eventually result in the government taking action in the interests of Canadians.
