MPs Bruce Hyer (NDP, Thunder Bay – Superior North) and John Rafferty (NDP, Thunder Bay – Rainy River) say they are disappointed over the defeat of a set of proposed budget amendments.

The NDP tabled amendments were designed to strip mention of the Harmonized Sales Tax from the budget document, which would effectively halt its implementation in Ontario and British Columbia.

The NDP members say implementation of the HST this summer comes at the worst possible time, with 1.5-million Canadians out of work and the just staggering back on its feet.
