THUNDER BAY — A total of 146 Thunder Bay high school students have decided to change the way they began taking instruction when the school year began in September.
The window for secondary school students to switch from in-person attendance to a virtual class, or vice versa, closed last week.
The Lakehead District School Board reports that 47 of its students made the move from in-person to online instruction.
Within the virtual learning group, 26 decided to switch to in-person.
The public board's secondary school enrolment is 2,500, of which 340 students are now learning virtually.
At the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board, exactly the same number of students opted to change – 73.
However, the proportions were reversed.
Only 28 students left in-person learning and moved to a virtual classroom.
A larger group – 45 – switched from virtual to in-person learning.
Out of the Catholic board's secondary school enrolment of 1,929, there are 232 students learning virtually.
