New COVID-19 cases in Kenora, Rainy River regions

New cases continue in two Northwestern Health Unit regions Saturday

SIOUX LOOKOUT, Ont.  The Northwestern Health Unit announced five confirmed cases of COVID-19 Friday, with its Kenora and Rainy River regions continuing to make up the majority of new infections.

Friday's announcement, made over social media, included three new confirmed cases in its Kenora region, and two in Rainy River. Both are large areas including over a dozen communities, with a full list available on the NWHU website.

Health authorities have recently warned of an alarming rise of cases in the town of Rainy River.

There were 19 active cases in the NWHU's catchment area as of Dec. 30, the last date for which the health unit had posted data as of Saturday. Seven of those were located in the Kenora region, with another 10 in the Rainy River region.

It had reported a total of 162 confirmed cases at that time, including one death.
