THUNDER BAY — A new outbreak of COVID-19 has been declared in a section of the City of Thunder Bay's Pioneer Ridge long-term-care home.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Monday announced an outbreak in Plaza 4 of the Tungsten St. facility.

This came three days after a COVID outbreak in Plaza 2 was declared over.

An outbreak at an Ontario nursing home is defined as two or more lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in residents or staff within a 14-day period where at least one case could have reasonably acquired their infection in the home.

According to information published by TBDHU,  there are currently eight other publicly-disclosed outbreaks in high-risk settings in the district, including one on Plaza 1 of Pioneer Ridge.

The other facilities with ongoing outbreaks are St. Joseph's Hospital 2N and 5S, Southbridge Roseview Manor, Kwae Kii Wiin Centre, and Hogarth Riverview Manor 4N, 1N and 5N.
