New fines for fire code violations: City release and fact sheet

City of Thunder Bay news release: April 14, 2015 – Ontario has expanded the list of ticket-able offenses for violations of the Fire Code.

City of Thunder Bay news release:

April 14, 2015 – Ontario has expanded the list of ticket-able offenses for violations of the Fire Code. 41 new set fines for Fire Code violations were added to the five that existed until now which relate to smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, maintenance records, fire door maintenance and fire extinguishers. Penalties upon conviction of these offences under Part I of the Provincial Offences Act now range from $235 to $360, including court costs and a victim surcharge.

“The changes now give assistants to the Fire Marshal the authority to issue a ticket on the spot for common Fire Code violations,” said Fire Chief John Hay.  “These changes don't just impact a building owner or homeowner, many of the changes impact the tenant, putting the responsibility on the renter to notify the owner if something isn’t working properly.”
