THUNDER BAY -- Another four-laning project between Thunder Bay and Nipigon is now moving to the construction phase.

The 13-kilometre section between Highway 527 and MacKenzie Station Road was announced in April 2010 by then-Northern Development Minister Michael Gravelle.

The design and public consultation phases have now been completed. And today, the province awarded the $ 46 million contract to Aecon Construction, based out of Toronto.

The four-laning work will begin by the end of this year and be completed in 2015. That section is in between a pair of other new four-laned sections.

The one section from Hodder Avenue to Highway 527 opened this summer, while the section from Mackenzie Station Road to Birch Beach Road is expected to open next year.
