THUNDER BAY -- Thunder Bay is renowned for producing hockey talent, and this also might be the case for producing local films.

The Hag, Bloodline, a new locally made film is set to hit theatres mid-November

The movie tells the story of a young woman struggling with the night terror known as the old hag.

The plot surrounds a young woman as she reflects on her childhood while struggling with depression.

While this sounds like the old run-of-the-mill horror story, it’s actually based on the real life events of director Chris Borgo.

“It’s loosely based on my own experiences with sleep paralysis,” he said.

“My sister actually suffered from sleeping walking as a child as well, so I spoke with my folks and they gave me some ideas and again using other people’s experiences.”

The film has a lot of Thunder Bay in it, from its local casting crew, to featuring some of the city’s popular parks like Boulevard Lake.

Producer Tony McGuire said all of the production staff were media and film graduates from Confederation College.

“I’m the only one who isn’t a graduate, but it was really important aspect of the production that we used all local talent,” McGuire said.

McGuire added that the film differs from other horror thrillers as it’s not cheesy.

“I wanted a 1980s feel, which was not to gross out the viewer I wanted the typical thriller you would get with the Halloweens and the Jason movies of the '80s where it wasn’t over produced, and it was not over gore,” he said.

“We wanted you to be on the edge of your seat, and we wanted silence during shots where you were wondering what’s that noise and you were in the theatre looking around and I think we accomplished that.“
