New video promotes Thunder Bay's tourism sector

The Tourism Thunder Bay production is aimed both at local residents and potential visitors

THUNDER BAY — Tourism Thunder Bay has released a slick new video that promotes the city as a vacation spot while simultaneously celebrating the importance of the hospitality industry to the economy.

It showcases the hotel, restaurant and entertainment sectors and the proximity of Thunder Bay to wilderness attractions, and is intended in part to increase local awareness of the tourism sector.

"The more time I spend in this region, the more I realize how special it is," an adventure guide states in the video, which was launched in conjunction with tourism week in Canada.

Paul Pepe, the city's manager of tourism, said it became particularly important during the COVID pandemic to support the local tourism sector at a time when travel nearly came to a standstill, and his department is carrying on with that theme.

"Our message is really about getting locals to really appreciate what we have in our community for tourism values, and to encourage their friends and family to come and visit this summer, and see the industry through the lens that the people in our tourism industry see Thunder Bay through," he said.

"It's all too easy for residents to become complacent about what we have around us, but what we have is world-class experiences, world-class natural environment and cultural attractions, and a culinary scene. This is our chance to celebrate that and encourage residents to have that pride of place, and share it with the world."

Besides being on YouTube, the video is being pushed out on the city's Facebook and Instagram channels

Pepe said it will also be circulated across the Northwest region and in Minnesota.
