THUNDER BAY -- There's now an easy way to get information on the region in one place.

The Northern Policy Institute's northbynumbers.ca gathers information on income, education, dwelling characteristics, age and other categories and presents it in an easy-to-understand map format.

Using Statistics Canada information from 2001, 2006 and 2011 it allows anyone to find out whether things like population growth or income levels have improved over time. The information is so precise it can even be broken down by specific neighbourhoods just by zooming in on the map.

"Look at the numbers and judge for themselves whether or not things are going well," NPI president Charles Cirtwill said.

The site, developed by Sault Ste. Marie's Innovation Centre, can also use Google Earth to lay the information over top.

"Then you can see things like roads hospitals, schools restaurants, so you get a sense of what sort of infrastructure is on the ground," he said.

Anyone who actually wants the hard numbers can also export them into Excel.
