Newfoundland resident faces impaired charges

RED LAKE, Ont. – A 46-year-old Newfoundland resident faces numerous charged after fleeing from police on Saturday.

According to an Ontario Provincial Police release, police observed a possible stolen motor vehicle on  Hammell Road around 8:48 p.m.

Police say officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver fled at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle was located and throughout the investigation, it was determined the driver had been consuming alcohol.

The driver failed an approved screening device sample and was placed under arrest and brought back to the detachment for more tests.

As a result of the investigation a 46-year-old of Newfoundland, was charged with operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), flight from peace officer two counts of operation while prohibited and failure to comply with undertaking.

He remains in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing.
