THUNDER BAY -- A charity golf tournament hosted by NHLer Carter Hutton has raised more than $59,000 for the George Jeffrey Children's Foundation.

The money will be put to great use, said the foundation's executive director, Cindy Levanto-Kawahara.

“Golfers enjoyed a wonderful day out on the golf course, followed by a virtual dinner, awards presentation, and online auction. It was a great way to safely celebrate in a year full of uncertainty," she said, of the Best Western Plus Dryden Hotel and Conference Centre's Hometown Heroes Charity Golf Classic that took place on Aug. 5 at the Fort William Country Club.

“We are very excited to announce that at the close of our online auction on Aug. 12, this event, together with the community, has raised $59,862 in support of George Jeffrey Children’s Foundation.”

All funds raised through this event help to support the important programs and services provided by George Jeffrey Children’s Centre to enable children to meet many of their day-to-day challenges through life-changing therapy and support.

“Of course this event would not have been possible without the generosity of our committed sponsors, golfers and volunteers,” said Levanto-Kawahara. “Thank you for your incredible support.”
