Nine new fires break out in region

The largest, known as Red Lake No. 39, is located 25 kilometres southwest of Pikangikum First Nation.

THUNDER BAY – Nine new forest fires were confirmed on Sunday in Ontario’s Northwest region.

The largest, according to Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services, Red Lake Fire No. 39, is listed at 250 hectares and is not under control.

The blaze is located near the Cairns River, about 25 kilometres southwest of Pikangikum First Nation.

Overall there are 19 active forest fires in the region, eight of which are listed as not being under conrol. One fire is being held, four are under control and six more are being observed.
