Nipigon OPP make fourth arrest in kidnapping case

Police have arrested the fourth outstanding suspect connected to a Sept. 14 kidnapping incident that left one man with serious injuries.

NIPIGON -  Ontario Provincial Police have arrested a 45-year-old man in connection to a kidnapping case from last week.

Jayson Lawson-Balodis of Nipigon was arrested and charged with kidnapping while using certain firearms, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and a variety of firearm-related offences, according to an OPP media release issued today, Sept. 24.

Three other men, Andrew Otway, 29, Billy John Thompson, 32, and Harold Robert Sault, 29 were also arrested earlier this week and charged with similar offences connected to the alleged kidnapping.

OPP officers were initially dispatched on Sept. 14 after receiving reports of a man who had been abducted, forcibly confined and assaulted with a firearm in Nipigon.

Police say the male victim escaped his captors and received assistance from a  witness who contacted police. Police say the victim sustained serious injuries.
