Thunder Bay was not enjoying a housing boom last month – at least from a housing starts perspective.

Not one new home start was recorded in February, according to figures released Thursday by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.

It's not all the unusual, said a CMHC expert.

"On average there are slightly more than two single-detached units started in February. This February is below average but it is not uncommon for there to be no starts counted in a month like February given the nature of the residential construction industry in Northern Ontario," said Warren Philp, CMHC's Northern Ontario Market Analyst.

There were three starts in January, which was down from six in January 2011. There was one new home started in February 2011.
