THUNDER BAY – A public health investigation has found no evidence of the spread of COVID-19 at the Whitefish Valley Public School, after a case was associated with the school earlier this month.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit made the announcement in a letter to the school community Friday.

The agency described the investigation as ongoing, however, and said it would continue to monitor the situation.

“At this point, no additional cases of COVID-19 have been identified and we have no evidence that the virus has spread in the school setting,” it read. “While this is reassuring at this time, ongoing vigilance will be maintained until the full risk period has passed.”

The Lakehead District School Board announced on Nov. 18 that an individual associated with the school, located southwest of Thunder Bay in Hymers, had tested positive for COVID-19.

The individual had been at the school during the time they were infectious, the board said, but maintained members of the school community were “not at an elevated risk.”
