Municipal leaders from around the region were in Thunder Bay Friday to discuss the Northern Ontario Growth Plan.

Board members of the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association were pouring over the proposed document, which is a 25-year plan the province says is designed to set the region's economy on a strong, globally-competitive footing.

Mining, Forestry and Green Energy were among the items up for discussion at the meeting.

Of the many plans written for the region over the decades, the Northern Ontario Growth Plan is the first one that is bound by legislation. Anne Krassilowsky is the President of NOMA and says the board will continue to meet to develop their strategy.

The final Growth Plan will guide future policy development and infrastructure investments by the province in the region over the next 25 years.
