THUNDER BAY -- The North End Community Centre is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a Saturday packed with several family-friendly events.
The anniversary celebrations won’t stop there as the party will continue the following weekend when the new splash pad at North End is expected to open.
Construction began earlier this year and it’s hoped to be ready for the kids to splash around on July 1. just in time for Canada’s 150th birthday.
Unfortunately, it won’t be ready in time for this Saturday’s 5oth anniversary of the hall.
North End Community Centre president Barb Kukko said festivities begin in the morning with the annual Soccer Fest, followed by the anniversary party beginning at 2 p.m.
“We have the soccer tournament, the barbecue, the dunk tank and a couple of inflatables located on various parts of the ground,” Kukko said.
“We start at 9:30. that’s our first soccer game. Hopefully, everything is set up by then and the barbecue itself should be ready to go at 11:30.”
The North End Community Centre is still looking for volunteers for the Soccer Fest event.
