NORTH SHORE, Ont. -- Communities along Lake Superior's north shore are facing ice pellets and freezing rain along with snowfall warnings, with weather not expected to clear until later on Tuesday.

Environment Canada issued snowfall warnings for Marathon-Schreiber and Nipigon-Rossport Monday morning, with another 15 to 20 centimetres forecast by Tuesday morning. With northerly winds gusting up to 50 kilometres per hour this evening, blowing snow will reduce visibility for motorists.

Marathon had received about 15 centimetres of snow by Monday morning, with freezing rain bringing the total amount of precipitation higher.

Further east, the Wawa area is under a freezing rain warning. Environment Canada says ice build-up of up to 10 millimetres is possible, but expects the rain to change to snow this afternoon. That's in addition to an estimated further 10 centimetres of snowfall on Monday.
