DRYDEN, Ont. -- The Thunder Bay North Stars are back in second place.

The Stars took to the road on Monday – where they'll be for all but three games the rest of the way – and were humbled 5-1 by the Dryden Ice Dogs.

At the same time the Red Lake Miners were taking care of business at home, thrashing the Thief River Falls Norskies 7-1.

The outcomes resulted in Red Lake taking over sole possession of top spot in the Superior International Junior Hockey League standings.

Jesse Mistelbacheer and Curtis Magas scored first period goals to give the Ice Dogs a 2-0 advantage, Amraj Gill netting his first of the season 13 minutes into the second to add to the Dryden lead.

Jacob Brown potted his 28th of the season with 1:41 to go in the middle stanza, but it was as close at the North Stars would get.

Dylan Winsor and Bryson McDonald, into the empty net, added third-period goals for the Ice Dogs.

Jacob Anthony stopped 35 shots to earn the win, while Seth McKay took the loss, stopping 21 of 23 shots before being replaced by Dylan Kosik, who was good on 22 of 24.
