A veteran journalist and author says Northwestern Ontario should be looking to the West to help recover from the recession.
Gordon Pitts, a business writer with the Globe and Mail, addressed business representatives and others at a luncheon hosted by the Community Economic Development Commission Thursday. Pitts said although there are plenty of opportunities in this region, including the Ring of Fire mining area, the Northwest needs to take advantage of the current opportunities in the west. CEO of the CEDC, Steve Demmings, said their strategic plan focuses on the same idea.
Pitts has interviewed hundreds of business leaders across the continent from companies including Barrick Gold and AbitibiBowater.
