THUNDER BAY -- While every city has its own issues, mayor Keith Hobbs says Northern leaders are on the same page when it comes to dealing with the provincial and federal government.
Hobbs joined the Northern Ontario Large Urban Mayors meeting in North Bay by conference-call to discuss everything from the new provincial cabinet to infrastructure. On cabinet Hobbs said he assured his colleagues that while Northwestern Ontario has two cabinet members, Michael Gravelle and Bill Mauro will work for the entire area.
Those portfolios, Gravelle with Northern development and mines and Mauro with natural resources and forestry, impact everywhere from Kenora to North Bay.
"We talked about the growth plan and how that needs to keep moving," Hobbs said. "We have a lot of things in common. We're looking at the same industries."
And of course the Ring of Fire is always top of mind.
"I think that's on everybody's radar," Hobbs said.
The mayors also discussed the proposed $1 billion for Ring of Fire infrastructure along with a $130 billion decade-long commitment for other infrastructure funding throughout the province.
"We're going to see how that rolls out," Hobbs said.
