THUNDER BAY — The Northern Ontario School of Medicine and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union have ratified a new collective agreement.

The contract covers a four-year period, from May 1, 2020 to April 30, 2024.

Under provincial legislation (Bill 124) that limits compensation in the public sector, 132 OPSEU members who work at NOSM will receive annual salary increases of one per cent.

Union bargaining chair Jason Lind said "The big demand that we had was a better workplace. Life-balance. So we looked at a little bit better vacation, some better wording around special leaves and such."

In light of COVID-19 measures requiring staff to work from home, the parties agreed to work together to establish a new Alternative Working Arrangements Policy during the term of the new collective agreement.

The new contract also includes a pension enhancement.
