KENORA — While it continues to emphasize that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is an underestimate of the actual number of cases, the Northwestern Health Unit reported almost 100 fewer active cases on Monday than on Friday.

The active case count in the NWHU's service area fell to 419.

Friday's figure reached a pandemic record high of 518. It was the fifth consecutive day that a new record was established.

No new deaths were reported Monday in the NWHU's catchment area, and seven residents of the region remained hospitalized for treatment of COVID-19.

But there were still 153 new cases, spread across all the NWHU's health hubs as follows:

  • Kenora - 55
  • Sioux Lookout - 35
  • Fort Frances - 33
  • Dryden - 22
  • Emo - 4
  • Atikokan - 2
  • Rainy River - 1
  • Red Lake - 1

The health unit advises anyone who has suspected COVID-19 symptoms, or who has been in contact with a positive case, to visit www.ontario.ca/exposed for more information on what to do next.
