KENORA, Ont. — The Northwestern Health Unit is reporting two new positive COVID-19 test results, and three new probable cases, in the Dryden/Red Lake region.

A probable case refers to an individual whose test results are not available but who is symptomatic and has had close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19.

Location details were not provided in a statement from the health unit late Monday morning.

However, the Keewatin-Patricia school board announced earlier that the NWHU had instructed it to close two classes at Dryden High School due to concerns about possible exposure to the virus.

The health unit conducts contact tracing and monitoring of self-isolation for all cases, both confirmed positive and probable positive.

It said follow-up with the persons involved and their contacts has started according to protocol.

Anyone who is identified as a contact for these cases will be contacted directly.

As of Monday afternoon, there were 18 active COVID-19 cases in the Northwestern Health Unit's service area, including seven in Dryden/Red Lake and five in Kenora.

The number of cases in the Rainy River District has now fallen to six.
