SIOUX LOOKOUT, Ont. - The Northwestern Health Unit reported three new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Sunday.

One of those cases involved a resident of the Rainy River District, while two others involved individuals with primary residences outside of the NWHU catchment area, the health unit reported via social media.

Those cases will be listed in the "other" region in the NWHU's reported data, which had not been updated since Dec. 24 as of Sunday afternoon.

However, provincial data updated Sunday showed 17 active cases in the health unit's catchment area.

The health unit warned of rising cases in Rainy River in a release issued earlier Sunday, saying there were more than 10 active cases in the town of 800.

Follow up with the individuals involved in cases announced Sunday, and their contacts, was underway, the health unit stated.
