THUNDER BAY — With the COVID-19 assessment centre at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre overwhelmed by requests for booking COVID-19 tests, at least one Thunder Bay clinic is now able to relieve some of the pressure.

Norwest Community Health Centres is providing COVID-19 tests on a limited basis.

CEO Juanita Lawson confirmed to Dougall Media on Wednesday that the service is available to the clinic's "target population."

Norwest's clinic in the city is located on Simpson Street.

TBRHSC officials indicated last week they were working with community partners to try to make testing available at other locations in Thunder Bay.

There has been no official announcement since then.

Jackie Park, the clinical coordinator for the hospital's assessment centre, said Friday “I think here in Thunder Bay we are going to have to start taking a community approach to testing and the assessment centre shouldn’t be the only place that will be doing testing.”

Park added “I am working with different partners in the community to make that happen.”
