NOSFA proposes resumption of film screenings

Patrons are being asked to fill out a survey about a proposed fall season

THUNDER BAY — North of Superior Film Association has announced a tentative plan to resume the screening of films.

In a message to its patrons Monday, NOSFA said that "after much analysis and debate," the board of directors has agreed to proceed with a 2022 fall season.

Screenings have been on hold since the onset of COVID-19 forced the cancellation of the Northwest Film Fest in April 2020.

A final decision on the fall season won't be made, however, until NOSFA assesses the results of a survey of its patrons.

The questionnaire asks them, first of all, if they will attend weekly screenings if they resume at SilverCity Thunder Bay in September.

It also asks how people feel about masking being optional, and whether NOSFA should adopt a single ticket price for all screenings rather than selling memberships.

President Marty Mascarin calls the poll "an exploratory operation, just to see how our patrons feel about the prospect of returning to indoor gatherings. We are looking at it very seriously, though."

He said the board feels it may be necessary to tweak how it's operated in the past.

"We're just approaching things cautiously, and that will be reflected – potentially – where we make some minor adjustments and offer more of a modest program."

Mascarin expects the board will be able to consider the results of the poll and make a firm decision on the resumption of screenings within the next month or so.
