Team looking for public support to help keep the program going, given that much government funding is needed elsewhere.

THUNDER BAY – The National Team Development Centre-Thunder Bay is turning to the public to help it emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The team, which trains elite-level cross-country skiers, is looking to raise $25,000.

“In recent years, funding available for programs like NTDC has decreased very significantly. Consequently, we have been trimming budgets and streamlining operations, always with the goal of maintaining our core program at the level required to continue our success.

“Despite our best efforts, we find ourselves in a very tight position, needing to reach out to our grassroots and expand our base. With the added uncertainties resulting from the COVID pandemic, we, like many, face additional challenges in planning for the future,” team officials posted on fundrazr.com about the “We ♥ NTDC" campaign.

The team is also looking for corporate sponsorship.

As of Monday morning, the team had raised $355 of its goal.
