Officials with Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources say the number of active forest fires in the region is growing quickly.
The forest fire risk now ranges from high to extreme in this region, and MNR spokeswoman Debbie Maclean says so far this season there have been 271 fires, burning a total of 2,700 hectares.
This has led the MNR to reiterate some safe fire practices
“People should attend their fire at all times, put it out before leaving and, just as a reminder, there is no daytime burning of brush or grass,” she said during an interview with CKPR Radio Friday. “Also, if it is windy just don’t light (a fire).”
